Site Visit to Vermont Marble Quarry for E9 Project Assessment

Our team recently conducted a site visit to a Vermont marble quarry to assess and survey a block that could potentially be used for one of the E9 pieces. The visit was essential due to the unique challenges posed by the E9 project’s requirements.

Each piece in the E9 project is exceptionally large and geometrically complex, making it extremely difficult to source material that meets our exacting standards. The block must be free of structural cracks and stun marks while being able to properly accommodate the required geometry—a rare combination in natural stone.

The journey began with a flight to Albany, New York, the nearest city with an airport, followed by an approximately 90-minute drive to the quarry site. Upon arrival, our team initiated a thorough visual inspection of the block, carefully examining it for any signs of cracking or structural defects.

Following the initial inspection, we proceeded with precise measurements of the block’s dimensions, comprehensive documentation of its features, and the strategic placement of our templates on the stone’s surface. This meticulous process ensures that the selected block will meet all technical specifications for the E9 project.

Throughout the visit, Luca and Keith from the quarry provided invaluable assistance, guiding us through their facility and showcasing their advanced operations. The tour included demonstrations of their slabbing processes, polishing techniques, and their state-of-the-art resin-oven line equipment, offering insight into the full scope of their stone processing capabilities.
