Each month, we take a moment to recognize the people who make Quarra Stone Company what it is. April is no different — this month, we’re proud to celebrate the work anniversaries of team members whose dedication, skill, and character have shaped our culture and our craft. Behind every project and every milestone are the people who show up, day after day, and make it all possible.
Steve Ensor | Sales

For more than two decades, Steve Ensor has been a cornerstone of Quarra Stone Company. With 24 years at the company and over 20 years in sales, Steve brings a rare combination of technical expertise and relationship-driven service — shaped by experience both on the shop floor and in the office.
Throughout his career, Steve has played a key role in some of Quarra’s most notable works. Among his favorites are the Vals Quartzite residences in Aspen, Colorado, where precision and respect for material integrity are critical. More recently, he has been involved in the fabrication of the Join or Die snake sculpture — another example of the complexity and craftsmanship that define Quarra’s work.
Beyond the projects, Steve is known for his deep knowledge of stone, fabrication, and design — something clients recognize and value. Many specifically request to work with him, a testament to the trust he has built over the years.
As Lincoln Durham, Vice President of Client Services, shares: “I’ve known Steve my entire life. He has a heart of gold and is a pillar of consistency at work. His knowledge of stone, fabrication, and design runs deep, and clients often ask to work with him specifically. Some of Quarra’s best projects have come through Steve’s hard work, and I’m proud to work alongside him.”
Outside of work, Steve is just as dedicated to his family and community. A father of three daughters and grandfather to eight grandchildren, he enjoys spending time outdoors — especially fishing. He also continues to give back through wrestling, having been a wrestler himself and now coaching middle school athletes.
After 24 years, Steve’s commitment remains rooted in one simple truth: the people.
Marc Vaage | Production Team / Maintenance

Marc Vaage has spent the past three years at Quarra Stone Company playing a vital role in keeping operations running smoothly. Working across production and maintenance, Marc is at the center of daily activity — where adaptability, problem-solving, and hands-on skill are essential.
During his time at Quarra, Marc has contributed to meaningful and technically demanding projects, including the Emmanuel 9 Memorial. He has also been deeply involved in projects that require precise movement and handling of stone — work that reflects both the craft’s physical and technical nature.
What Marc enjoys most about his role is the variety. No two days are ever the same, and each challenge brings something new to solve. He also appreciates the campus environment and the team’s collaborative nature.
Outside of work, Marc stays active year-round. Whether it’s skiing, golfing, biking, practicing yoga, or hiking, he brings the same energy and balance to his personal life as he does to his work.
His contributions may often happen behind the scenes, but they are essential to everything Quarra delivers.
Kim Nelson | Payroll, Accounts Receivable, Collections

If there’s one person who embodies the spirit of Quarra Stone Company, it’s Kim Nelson — affectionately known as the “Quarra Mom.”
For 22 years, Kim has been a constant presence within the company, supporting payroll, accounts receivable, collections, and countless other responsibilities with unwavering care and precision. Her role touches nearly every part of the business, and everyone around her feels her impact.
Over the years, Kim has taken pride in seeing Quarra’s work come to life beyond the shop. She has visited completed projects such as the Sean Collier Memorial and the Boston Public Library, and she values the relationships she has built with longtime partners such as Pizzotti Brothers.
Her coworkers describe her as a bright light — someone who brings positivity, reliability, and determination to everything she does. When something needs to get done, Kim approaches it with focus and follow-through. That level of consistency is rare, and it’s one of the many reasons she’s so deeply valued.
Outside of work, Kim’s greatest joy is her family. She welcomed her first granddaughter in May 2025 and cherishes every moment spent with her growing family. She also enjoys camping, UTV riding, cooking, and spending time with friends.
After more than two decades, what Kim values most isn’t just the work — it’s the people. The friendships, the shared milestones, and the opportunity to watch others grow have made her journey at Quarra truly meaningful.
A Culture Built on People
While Quarra Stone Company is known for its craftsmanship and capability, it’s the people behind the work who truly set it apart. From long-standing leaders like Steve and Kim to dedicated team members like Marc, each individual contributes to a culture built on trust, skill, and shared purpose.
We’ll be back next month to celebrate the next group of anniversaries — because at Quarra, recognizing the people who show up is something we do all year long. These stories are a reminder that great work doesn’t happen by accident. It’s built over time by people who care. And at Quarra, that’s what makes all the difference.
